There is approximately 25kg in a major bag from Wickes. This will vary slightly from bag to bag, which is one reason why suppliers prefer not to say how much they should contain.
For example, a bag that has been stored outside will have a higher moisture content than one that has been stored inside and is dry. Bags that are damp will weigh slightly more as a result.
Another reason why weight is not always specified is that the bags are filled by volume and not weight. Ballast weighs more than sand, so even though the major bag contains the same volume, the weight will vary depending on the density of the product.
Major bags from Tarmac are also known as large bags, depending on which retailer you visit.

Expected Weight vs Actual Weight of Major Bags
When buying bulk bags retailers include a disclaimer that the total weight can vary by plus or minus 5 percent. For this reason, we expected major bags to vary by a similar amount and they would contain between 23.75kg and 26.25kg.
Two of the bags we weighed were almost exactly 25kg. However, the other two were below the 5 percent variance advertised. This is not a great deal per bag but could add up to a significant amount if working on a larger project.
It is worth noting that this is the smallest sample size possible and will not be fully representative of the amount you receive. It may however be worth buying a couple of extra bags to make sure you have enough material.
How Many Wickes Major Bags in a Jumbo Bag?
Wickes jumbo bags, which are also known as bulk bags, contain approximately 800kg. This means there are 35 major bags in a jumbo bag. This is calculated by dividing the 800kg in the jumbo bag by the 25kg in the major bag.
However, the 5 percent variance in the total weight of a jumbo bag means it can contain anywhere between 760kg and 840kg. That means there can be as few as 30.4 major bags and as many as 33.6.
